On May 1st, 2011, my cousin Tyler ended his life.

He was a passionate lover - he loved food, skydiving, people, and he loved to run.
To honor my cousin, I am going to run in the 2012 Flying Pig Marathon, one year after his death,
to raise suicide awareness and something I call love awareness.

This is where I will record the journey.
I also hope that this blog will be a resource to anyone
in a similar situation to help them along.

Rest in peace, Tyler. I love you.

It's a Facebook miracle!

A few nights after Tyler passed away I was going through my messages on Facebook and deleting the ones I didn't need. I have to tell you, this is a regular practice of mine. I delete all of my Facebook conversations. But as I was going through them all, I stumbled across one from Tyler. It intrigued me so I clicked on it and found that almost all of the conversations we had since January 2009 had somehow been archived. I could not believe it! I read them all. I laughed, I cried, and now I want to share some of the funny conversations with you. :)

_____

Tyler: I just sent you a message. Read it and laugh.
(He sent me a bunch of notes from parents excusing their children from school (because I'm studying to become a teacher). I was feeling stomach sick that day and he wanted to make me laugh. He always wanted to make people laugh.)

_____

Me: Hi, cuzie!
Tyler: Hi how's life?
Me: Meh. How are you?
Tyler: I'm writing a paper. So meh. I have 3.5 pages done. Needs to be 5.
Me: You can do it!!! :)
Tyler: I just got invited to Chipotle!
Me: Are you gonna go?
Tyler: Yea soon. Since it closes at ten lol. My paper's not due til midnight.
Me: Tyler......
Tyler: What? I have 2.5 hours lol. Time is on my side.
Tyler: Well I'm meeting him soonly. SOONLY SHOULD TOTALLY BE A WORD!!!
Me: We'll make it one.
Tyler: We'll do it soonly.
Me: It's like a word for procrastination.
Tyler: Yes for people that can't spell lol.
Tyler: I'll be back in an hour.

(Tyler and I liked to make up words that only we would know about. The words always came from something silly he said.)
_____

Me: How was Chipotle?
Tyler: Good. As always lol.
Tyler: I gotta hop in the shower.
Me: Be careful hopping in. You might slip. Try one foot at a time.
Tyler: Nah I went head first. It was fine.
Me: Hahahaha!

_____

Tyler: You're weird!
Me: I'm not the one yelling at the moon!
Tyler: The moon deserves it.
Me: What did the moon ever do to you?
Tyler: Stole my lunch money in 5th grade. It was taco day. TACO DAY!!!!
Tyler: ...... there's a video of a penguin being tickled on my wall. You should watch it.

_____

Me: I happen to have a paper to write also. Four of them actually. So I'm going to set a positive example for you and get off Facebook and actually write them!!! :)
Tyler: I don't follow positive examples. I only follow negative examples because two negatives = a positive!!!
Me: Me flunking out of high school and you failing a college course are the only "positives" I see coming from your statement.

_____

(Posted on my wall)
Tyler: Someone remind Stacey to remind me to text her or else I'll forget!

(He didn't forget. In fact, he called.)

_____

I don't think I'll ever be able to delete these conversations. On days like today I'll be able to look back on them and laugh the way Tyler always made me and everyone else. There are still a few I would like to share including my personal favorite funny conversation and the really meaningful ones, but I will save those for another day. Thank you for reading. Try to laugh today. :)
